A new generation is a clean slate for fresh ideas. For the 2025 Nissan Murano, the first model year of the nameplate’s fourth generation, that means a new powertrain, sharper styling, and a more modern cabin.

1. New Powertrain
Since its first release, the Murano featured a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a continuously variable transmission. While that combination proved effective, the new Murano shifts to a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo inline-four engine paired with a traditional nine-speed automatic transmission. This powerplant makes 241 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 20 lb-ft compared to the previous model.
The new powertrain also introduces variable compression (that’s the “VC” in VC-Turbo). This system can change how much the engine compresses air and fuel, depending on how you’re driving. It uses a lower ratio, like 8:1, when you need more power, and a higher one, up to 14:1, when you’re cruising to save fuel.
2. Updated Looks
Nissan made sure the powerful engine is wrapped in a design that’s just as compelling. The new Murano gets flared fenders, a more subtle V-Motion grille with thin LED running lights on each side, ultra-slim headlights, and a roof that slopes gently to the rear.
The back sees some updates as well: the wiper moves above the rear windows, the exhaust tips are hidden, and the license plate holder drops down to the lower bumper. A full-width LED taillights stretches across the liftgate, creating a delightful lighting signature at night.
3. Modern Interior
Every trim of the 2025 Murano comes with dual 12.3-inch displays framed by stitched materials, soft-touch surfaces throughout, a thick steering wheel with a flatter bottom, and a driver’s seat with expanded lift and slide adjustments. The dashboard has a special finish called “Murano Glass,” inspired by the beautiful Venetian glassworks that share the car’s name.
In the back, passengers can enjoy available heated seats and sunshades on the doors. Thinner front seats create extra knee room, and the rear seats now feature Zero Gravity comfort for the first time. Rear doors open wider than before to ease entry and loading of child safety seats.
4. Technology
The 2025 Murano integrates Nissan Safety Shield 360 and ProPILOT Assist, Nissan’s semi-autonomous driving system. An upgraded version, ProPILOT Assist 1.1, available on higher trims, enhances the system by using navigation data to adjust speeds.
New to the Murano are two camera systems: Invisible Hood View, which shows a clear view directly in front of the vehicle, and 3D Intelligent Around View Monitor, which offers eight virtual angles around the car to aid parking and maneuvering.
