All new Nissans are equipped with an advanced driver assistance system called Safety Shield 360. This system works to protect you and your passengers from accidents. As your Nissan dealership, we would like to tell you more about some of its safety features.

Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
This system uses a camera and radar to identify vehicles, pedestrians, or animals in your path. If something is detected, the radar measures the distance from your front bumper to the object. The system then compares the distance to your present speed to determine if there’s a collision risk. If one exists, a warning icon will appear on your front screen, and you’ll hear warning tones.
If you’re unable to hit the brakes, the emergency braking function will gradually bring your Nissan to a stop. It can also apply hard braking if necessary to stop your vehicle almost instantly to prevent an accident or reduce the damage caused by one.
Lane Departure Warning
This feature activates when you’re traveling at 37 mph or more and helps to keep you safely in your lane. It uses a forward-facing camera positioned above the rearview mirror and scans the road for white or yellow lane lines. Once the lines are detected, you’ll receive alerts if your Nissan strays towards either lane boundary.
The types of alerts you receive depend on the preferences you choose, and include warning beeps, a warning icon on your front screen, or your steering wheel may vibrate. Your Nissan may also have Intelligent Lane Intervention (ILI), which applies light braking to guide you back into your lane if your wheels continue to move toward the lane boundary and you’re not actively steering.
Blind Spot Warning
Blind spots are dangerous, particularly when changing lanes, as it’s impossible to see a vehicle that enters one until it’s too late. Sensors are located on the rear sides of your Nissan and continuously scan your blind spots for approaching vehicles. If anything enters a blind spot, a yellow icon will appear on the corresponding side mirror to alert you.
If your turn signal is active and a vehicle enters a blind spot, the warning light on the sideview mirror will flash, and you’ll hear warning beeps to alert you to danger. Depending on your Nissan model, you may also have Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention. This feature will apply light braking to the opposite side of your vehicle to smoothly direct you back into your lane.
These are just some of the many safety systems you’ll find in a Nissan. If you want to know more about the systems in your vehicle, contact us today at Wallace Nissan of Kingsport in Kingsport, TN.
